Allen-Frost claim one-stroke Legends win

SAVANNAH, Ga., April 22 (UPI) -- Michael Allen and David Frost teamed up to produce a round of 10-under 62 Sunday, squeezing out a one-stroke victory in the Legends of Golf event.

The pair finished with at 29-under 187, only one shot better than the duo of John Cook and Joey Sindelar, who fired an 11-under 61.

The key to the victory came on the 77-yard, par-four 14th. After Allen began by hitting a poor drive, Frost was able to place his tee shot just short of the green and proceeded to drain a long chip shot for an eagle.

That put the Allen-Frost team atop the leaderboard at 29-under, and they held on through a driving rain to claim the title.

It was the second Champions Tour title in two weeks for Allen, who earlier claimed the Pro-Am of Tampa Bay.

The second-round co-leading team of Brad Bryant and Tom Purtzer stumbled a bit Sunday, registering an 8-under 64. That performance netted them a third-place tie with Andy Bean-Chien-Soon Lu (62) and Brad Faxon-Jeff Sluman (63) at minus-27.
