MLB: Philadelphia 4, San Diego 1

SAN DIEGO, April 21 (UPI) -- Juan Pierre's two-run single put Philadelphia in front during a three-run seventh inning Friday and propelled the Phillies to a 4-1 win over San Diego.

Edinson Volquez blanked Philadelphia through six innings but he loaded the bases to start the seventh on singles by Shane Victorino, Ty Wigginton and Freddy Galvis.

After Andrew Cashner relieved Volquez (0-2), Brian Schneider singled home Victorino. Jim Thome struck out, but Pierre followed with his single to right that gave the Phillies a 3-1 lead.

Victorino added a solo homer in the eighth.

The comeback gave the win to Cole Hamels (2-1), who lasted six innings while allowing a run on six hits. Jonathan Papelbon claimed his fifth save, working a perfect ninth.

Philadelphia won its second straight and is 3-2 on a 10-game road trip. The Padres have lost four in a row.
