Coyotes' Torres suspended 25 games by NHL

NEW YORK, April 21 (UPI) -- The National Hockey League Saturday levied a 25-game suspension against Phoenix forward Raffi Torres for a crushing hit on Chicago's Marian Hossa.

Torres was not penalized for the hit on Tuesday, but the league decided it rated a suspension because Torres had left his feet to deliver the blow.

Hossa wound up in the hospital and has not yet been cleared to return to action.

Torres was given an indefinite suspension Wednesday, which the league formalized after meeting with Torres in New York. The suspension will carry over to next season if the 24 remaining games are not covered during the playoffs.
