Allen, Frost grab share of Legends lead

SAVANNAH, Ga., April 21 (UPI) -- Michael Allen, who won last week's Pro-Am of Tampa, was tied for the lead along with partner David Frost Saturday after two rounds of the Legends of Golf.

Allen, fresh off the Florida victory, teamed with Frost to knot the tandem of Brad Bryant and Tom Purtzer at 19-under-par 125 through 32 holes at Georgia's Savannah Harbor course.

Allen and Frost fired a 9-under 63 while Bryant and Purtzer carded a 7-under 65 to retain a share of the lead under the event's best-ball format.

The Allen-Frost team drained four straight birdies and six in seven holes to charge into a share of the lead.

They and Bryant-Purtzer held a one-stroke advantage over four other squads.

That group included Tom Kite and Gil Morgan with an 11-under 61; Fred Couples and Jay Haas (63); Andy North and Bobby Clampett (62); and Brad Faxon and Jeff Sluman (64).
