NHL: Philadelphia 8, Pittsburgh 4

PHILADELPHIA, April 15 (UPI) -- Maxime Talbot, Danny Briere and Matt Read each scored twice Sunday and Philadelphia pushed Pittsburgh to the brink of elimination with an 8-4 playoff victory.

The Flyers scored four times in the first period and added two more in the second to chase Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury and grab a commanding 3-0 lead over favored Pittsburgh in their Eastern Conference first-round series.

Jaromir Jagr added three assists and Ilya Bryzgalov turned aside 31-of-35 shots as the Flyers won the first three games of a series for the first time since 2000.

They will seek to close out the series Wednesday in Philadelphia.

Fleury was shelled for six goals on 28 shots before being yanked.

James Neal scored twice and added and assist while Jordan Staal contributed a pair of goals for the Penguins.

The fight-filled game featured 14 major penalties and three game misconducts.
