MLB: New York Yankees 5, LA Angels 0

NEW YORK, April 13 (UPI) -- Hiroki Kuroda allowed just five hits over eight innings Friday in helping the New York Yankees to a 5-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Kuroda (1-1) lasted one batter into the ninth inning. That was Bobby Abreu, who collected the fifth hit -- all singles -- off Kuroda. He also gave up a hit to the first batter he faced.

Kuroda walked two and struck out six.

David Robertson replaced Kuroda and got Albert Pujols to ground into a double play and then struck out Kendrys Morales to end the game. The Yankees had three double plays in the game.

Los Angeles starter Ervin Santana (0-2) gave up all five Yankee runs on six hits in six innings. He also walked three and struck out five.

Santana struck out the first two New York batters but then allowed a single to Alex Rodriguez and walked Robinson Cano and Mark Teixeira. Nick Swisher drove the ball to deep center field for a three-run double.

Rodriguez hit his first home run of the season in leading off the third inning and Curtis Granderson had a home run in the fifth to account for the other runs. Granderson had two home runs this year.
