KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 13 (UPI) -- Shin-Soo Choo and Jason Kipnis both had two RBI during a seven-run first inning Friday, launching Cleveland to an 8-3 victory over Kansas City.
The big opening inning allowed Derek Lowe to pick up his second win in as many starts despite giving up 11 hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Cleveland sent 11 men to the plate in the first against Luke Hochevar (1-1), who wound up surrendering eight runs in four innings.
Choo singled in the first two runs after Michael Brantley had a base hit to open the game and moved to third on a double by Asdrubal Cabrera.
The rest of the runs in the inning came with two away with Choo scoring on a single by Shelley Duncan. Casey Kotchman's base hit sent Duncan to second and both runners scored on a triple by Kipnis.
A single by Jack Hannahan and a double by Brantley in his second at bat of the inning accounted for the final two runs.
