Andujar wins twice in Morocco

CASABLANCA, Morocco, April 13 (UPI) -- Third-seeded Pablo Andujar won a pair of matches Friday in claiming a semifinal berth at the Grand Prix Hassan II tennis tournament in Morocco.

Weather washed out Andujar's scheduled second-round match Thursday but he easily handled Potito Starace 6-3, 6-0 early Friday to move to the quarterfinals, where he posted a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 win over Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol. Andujar also beat Starace in last year's tournament final.

Gutierrez-Ferrol was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Lamine Ouahab in his second-round match Friday.

Andujar won the first three games of the first set versus Gutierrez-Ferrol but Gutierrez-Ferrol dominated the second set. Andujar broke open a tight third set with a break -- his fourth of the match -- in the eighth game and then served out.

He'll go against Flavio Cipolla in Saturday's semifinals. Cipolla was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Benoit Paire in his quarterfinal. He had five breaks in advancing. Saturday's match will be the first time Andujar and Cipolla have met in an ATP event.

Also Friday, seventh-seeded Albert Ramos defeated Jeremy Chardy 6-3, 6-4 and Igor Andreev was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in setting up the other semifinal.

Ramos is 2-0 lifetime versus Andreev. They last met earlier this year in Brazil when Ramos won two tiebreakers.
