MLB: San Diego 2, Arizona 1

SAN DIEGO, April 11 (UPI) -- A two-run homer in the eighth by Chris Denorfia lifted San Diego to a 2-1 win over Arizona Wednesday, handing the Diamondbacks their first setback of the year.

Arizona and Detroit went into the day's action as the only unbeaten teams in baseball and both went down to defeat. The Tigers lost to Tampa Bay.

San Diego's Joe Saunders gave up four hits in seven scoreless innings before being replaced by David Hernandez (0-1).

Hernandez walked Cameron Maybin on a 3-2 pitch with one away and Denorfia followed with his first homer of the year.

That made a winner out of Ernesto Frieri (1-0), who worked 1 1/3 innings with a walk and two strikeouts.

Huston Street worked a perfect ninth for his first save in a San Diego uniform after spending four seasons with Oakland and three with Colorado.

Arizona's run came in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk issued to Jason Kubel by Cory Luebke.

Luebke then struck out Paul Goldschmidt to prevent further damage and survived 5 1/3 innings while giving up four hits and walking three.
