LOS ANGELES, April 10 (UPI) -- Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully, said to have a cold, Tuesday missed the Los Angeles Dodgers' home opener for just the second time in 63 years.
Scully, 84, was absent from behind the microphone when the Dodgers took the field in Los Angeles against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
ESPN.com quoted an unnamed source saying the broadcasting legend was suffering a severe cold and stayed home on doctor's orders.
The report said Scully showed signs of a cold during the Dodgers' season-opening weekend in San Diego, but added the illness isn't thought to be serious.
Scully, who was selected for the broadcasting wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982, cut back on his travel schedule before the season, announcing he would only go on the road with the team to California cities and Phoenix.
