CLEVELAND, April 9 (UPI) -- Chris Sale yielded only one run over 6 2/3 innings in his first major league start Monday, boosting the Chicago White Sox to a 4-2 win over Cleveland.
Sale (1-0), a career reliever, was promoted to the White Sox rotation and responded with a sterling effort, allowing three hits while walking two and striking out five.

Rookie Hector Santiago accrued his second career save after surrendering a Jose Lopez solo homer in the ninth.
A.J. Pierzynski socked a two-run homer in the first inning following Alejandro De Aza's solo shot for the White Sox, who evened their record at 2-2.
Indians starter Josh Tomlin (0-1) was tagged for four runs on seven hits in a five-inning start.
The Tribe fell to 1-3 to start the season.
