MLB: Seattle 8, Oakland 7

OAKLAND, Calif., April 8 (UPI) -- Chone Figgins capped a big fourth inning with a two-run double Saturday and the Seattle Mariners held on to post an 8-7 win over Oakland.

Ichiro Suzuki launched the outburst with an RBI triple for the Mariners, who improved to 3-1 to start the new season.

Michael Saunders added a solo homer in the victory. Figgins finished 3-for-5

Felix Hernandez (1-0) earned the triumph despite yielding six runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings, walking one and striking out seven.

Brandon League had to nail down his second save to turn back the A's, who scored three times in the seventh on the third homer of the season by Cuban rookie Yoenis Cespedes, a three-run shot.

A's starter Bartolo Colon (1-1) was lit up for seven runs on 10 hits, getting knocked out after 4 1/3 innings.

Kurt Suzuki stroked a two-run double in the sixth for Oakland.
