NEW YORK, April 2 (UPI) -- New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin will be out about six weeks after undergoing successful surgery on his left knee, the team said Monday.

The procedure repaired a chronic small meniscus tear in the knee.

"Praise God for a successful surgery ... road to recovery! Lets [go]," Lin wrote in a Twitter post.

The guard -- averaging 14.6 points, 6.1 assists and 3.1 rebounds in 35 games -- became a sensation when his play rallied the team into the playoff picture.

The team Monday disputed a newspaper story suggesting it withheld news of the injury to sell playoff tickets.

Sports columnist Frank Isola wrote in the New York Daily News the Knicks knew Lin would need season-ending surgery two days before Wednesday's deadline for fans to buy playoff ticket packages, but withheld the information.

The team reported the injury Saturday.

The column brought an angry reaction from the team's owner.

"The suggestion that the timing of Jeremy Lin's injury report is in any way connected to a longstanding Knicks playoff ticket deadline is a malicious attack on The Madison Square Garden Company," the company said in a statement.
