GREAT FALLS, Mont., April 2 (UPI) -- Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf remained jailed in Montana Monday after being arrested twice during the weekend on burglary, theft and drug charges.
Cascade County, Mont., authorities said Leaf, who played for the San Diego Chargers and Dallas Cowboys from 1998-2001, was arrested Friday on drug charges, and then released on bond. He was arrested again Sunday on counts of burglary, drug possession and theft, the Great Falls (Mont.) Tribune reported.
The newspaper said Leaf, who was on probation from a Texas arrest, was being held in a Great Falls jail after making an initial appearance Monday in Cascade County District Court.
Police had been investigating the former signal-caller for about a month before his first arrest, Central Montana Drug Task Force Commander Chris Hickman told the newspaper.

After his release on bond, police said he was identified as a man who was found Sunday by homeowners without permission inside a Great Falls house. The homeowners said prescription drugs were missing after the man -- who had said he mistakenly entered the wrong house -- left the premises, the Tribune reported.
A search warrant at Leaf's home turned up 89 hydrocodone pills in his bathrobe pocket, authorities said.
Leaf was indicted in May 2009 in Texas on burglary and controlled substance charges in Texas, and pleaded guilty in Amarillo in 2010 seven counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and one count of delivery of a simulated controlled substance. He was sentenced to 10 years' probation and fined $20,000.
Leaf -- the second overall selection in the 1998 NFL Draft -- was a Heisman Trophy finalist as a junior at Washington State University, leading the Cougars to their first Pac-1- championship.
