NEW YORK, March 31 (UPI) -- New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin will miss about six weeks following surgery on his left knee, the team announced Saturday.
The surgery became necessary when a magnetic resonance imaging exam revealed a small chronic meniscus tear in the knee.

Lin had missed three games with what had been described as a sore left knee.
He vowed to reporters that he would come back "stronger than I ever was."
The unheralded point guard turned into a sensation this season when he helped the Knicks rally from a slump. The team now occupies the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
Lin has averaged 14.6 points, 6.1 assists and 3.1 rebounds in 35 games this season.
