Lawrie, five others, lead Sicilian Open

SCIACCA, Italy, March 30 (UPI) -- Peter Lawrie shot even-par 72 Friday to keep him a part of a six-way tie for first place halfway through the European Tour's Sicilian Open in Italy.

Lawrie set a course record with an 8-under-par 64 Thursday but had three bogeys against three birdies Friday in allowing the field to catch him.

Pelle Edberg had the round of the day with a 6-under 66 in grabbing his share of the lead. Also at 8-under after 36 holes are Simon Wakefield (67 Friday), Maarten Lafeber (68), David Lynn (69) and Jamie Donaldson (71).

Seven other players are one stroke behind the leaders and 12 are tied at 6-under meaning there are 25 golfers within two strokes of the lead. At one point Friday, 11 players were tied for first.

Two of Lawrie's bogeys came back to back at Nos. 18 and 1 -- he started on the back nine Friday -- but he birdied the par-5, 567-yard seventh hole for the second consecutive round to stay in the lead.
