Stewart wins rain-shortened Auto Club race

FONTANA, Calif., March 25 (UPI) -- Tony Stewart grabbed the lead after 86 laps Sunday and hung on for a rain-shortened, 129-lap victory at Auto Club Speedway in California.

The defending Sprint Cup champion passed Kyle Busch to take over first place, then faked a pit stop with rain threatening after 123 laps, fooling second-place Denny Hamlin into making a stop of his own.

Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth and Mark Martin also hit the pits, leaving Stewart and Busch on the track as the rain intensified and the Auto Club 400 was called six laps later.

It was Stewart's second victory this season -- he also won at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the first time earlier this month.

Busch ended in second, with Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards rounding out the Top 5.
