Dolphins' Kenneth Mixon accused of beating up girlfriend

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Former Miami Dolphins defensive end Kenneth Mixon was released from jail on $6,500 bond Monday after being charged with beating up his girlfriend.

Mixon, 36, appeared Monday before Broward Judge John "Jay" Hurley, who ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

Mixon was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after his girlfriend called 911 and later told an investigator he had pushed her into a glass mirror, grabbed her around the neck and kicked her thigh after an argument at a home they share in Weston, a Broward Sheriff's Office arrest report said.

Mixon denied he struck his girlfriend or grabbed her around the neck and told authorities he pushed her aside after she started an argument and punched and scratched him, the Sun Sentinel said.

Mixon played with the Dolphins from 1998-2001 and signed with the Minnesota Vikings as a free agent during the 2002 season.
