WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Power-play scores by Evander Kane and Dustin Byfuglien gave Winnipeg a four-goal lead in the second period Thursday and the Jets hung on to down Tampa Bay 4-3.

Winnipeg moved a point in front of Florida for the lead in the Southeast Division. The Jets have only the seventh-best record overall in the Eastern Conference.

Ondrej Pavelec took a shutout into the third period, but things got scary near the end of the contest.

Steven Stamkos gave Tampa Bay its first goal with 9 minutes to play, when he scored his league-leading 43rd of the season. Teddy Purcell then scored with 54 seconds left and Martin St. Louis added a goal on the power play with only 8 seconds to go. Pavelec wound up making 22 saves.

After giving up four goals on 14 shots, Mathieu Garon was removed in favor of Dwayne Roloson, who stopped all 16 shots he faced.

The Lightning had won four in a row.
