NHL: Phoenix 5, Los Angeles 4 (SO)

GLENDALE, Ariz., Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Mikkel Boedker scored the deciding goal in a shootout Tuesday, giving the Phoenix Coyotes a 5-4 victory over Los Angeles.

Radim Vrbata and Shane Doan both scored two goals for the Coyotes, who have won eight of their last nine games.

Vrbata's second goal tied the score 4-4 in the third period. Mike Smith made 25 saves for Phoenix.

Drew Doughty, Justin Williams, Brown and Andrei Loktionov all scored for the Kings. Jonathan Quick made 25 saves.

The Kings, who have lost five of their last six, led 3-0 after one period but their edge shriveled to 4-3 after two periods. Vrbata scored an unassisted power-play goal at 17:07 of the third period to send the game into overtime.

The Kings' Dustin Brown tied the shootout in the second round but Boedker responded with a backhander to put Phoenix ahead. Jack Johnson then missed on the Kings' final attempt.
