Pervak bests Marino in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Russia's Ksenia Pervak breezed to a straight-sets win over 2011 runner-up Rebecca Marino Tuesday in the opening round of the Memphis International tennis event.

Pervak downed the Canadian 6-2, 6-4 at the Racquet Club of Memphis.

Marino last year advanced to the finals, where she fell to Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova.

In second-round action Tuesday, No. 7 seed Johanna Larsson of Sweden fell 6-2, 6-4 to American Varvara Lepchenko, while Russian Vera Dushevina dispatched U.S. qualifier Jamie Hampton 6-4, 6-3.

No. 5 seed Pauline Parmentier of France advanced to face 2010 runner-up Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden after holding off Czech Andrea Hlavackova 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
