COLUMBUS, Ohio, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Jeff Carter netted his 500th career goal and second hat trick of the season Tuesday in the Columbus Blue Jackets' 6-3 spanking of San Jose.
Carter's three-goal performance, the fourth of his career, boosted Columbus to its first win in three contests.

R.J. Umberger, Rick Nash and David Savard each contributed a goal and an assist for Columbus, while Steve Mason turned aside 38 shots to earn the victory.
The Sharks got two markers from Logan Couture and Joe Thornton added a goal in their fourth straight setback.
Antti Niemi was yanked from net after yielding three tallies on just 11 shots.
Thomas Greiss let in three goals on 24 shots the rest of the way for the Sharks.
