Rondo suspended for 2 games

NEW YORK, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- The NBA said Monday Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo has been suspended for two games for hitting an official with a ball.

Stu Jackson, the league's executive vice president of basketball operations, said Rondo was penalized "for throwing a ball at an official and striking him in the chest" during the third quarter of the Celtics' loss to Detroit Sunday.

Rondo will miss the Celtics' games at Dallas Monday and at Oklahoma City Wednesday, which will be his 26th birthday.

Rondo is averaging 14.8 points and 9.5 assists per game.
