Swedes win marathon Davis Cup doubles

NIS, Serbia, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Sweden won Saturday's doubles match over Serbia in five sets to stave off elimination in first-round Davis Cup play in Nis.

Johan Brunstrom and Robert Lindstedt battled more than four hours to notch a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (3-7), 10-8 victory over Janko Tipsarevic and Nenad Zimonjic, and send the match-up with the Serbs to Sunday's reverse-singles phase.

The Serbs fought tenaciously to stay alive in the final set but were broken for the first time in the set at 8-7 and Sweden held on for the clinching win.

Sweden committed 100 unforced errors in the match to Serbia's 61; however Brunstrom and Lindstedt served 27 aces and won 81 percent of their points on first serves.

Tipsarevic will try to close out Sweden on Sunday in reverse singles play against Michael Ryerstedt. Viktor Troicki will square off against Filip Prpic if necessary.
