A's Beane, Crowley offered extensions

OAKLAND, Calif., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Oakland Athletics General Manager Billy Beane and President Michael Crowley have been offered long contract extensions, team owner Lew Wolff said Tuesday.

Wolff told Bloomberg Television he wants the pair to remain with the A's through the 2019 season and expects them to sign within a month.

"I view them as partners as well as executives," Wolff said. "So if they are here another 30 years, that is fine with me. I may not be here to see it, but that will be fine."

Beane and Crowley are currently under contract through the 2014 season and are limited partners under the A's ownership structure.

Beane has been Oakland's GM since 1997 and is renowned for building pennant contenders on limited budgets.

He was portrayed by actor Brad Pitt in the movie "Moneyball," based on the book by Michael Lewis. The film has been nominated for Best Picture and Pitt is up for Best Actor at the 2012 Academy Awards for his performance.
