RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 31 (UPI) -- John Tavares netted a pair of goals Tuesday and the New York Islanders halted a two-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over Carolina.
Tavares' second goal broke a 2-2 tie 7:36 into the third period and proved to be the game-winner.

Matt Moulson contributed a goal and two assists while PA Parenteau and Kyle Okposo each chipped in with a goal and a helper for New York.
Kevin Poulin earned the victory with 21 saves.
Tim Brent and Brandon Sutter scored and Cam Ward finished with 21 stops for Carolina.
