Brooks Robinson fractures shoulder

HOLLYWOOD, Fla., Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Baltimore Orioles great Brooks Robinson, 74, was recovering in a south Florida hospital Tuesday with a fractured shoulder, a nurse said.

The Hall of Famer was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Fla., Friday night after falling from an elevated stage where he was seated during a baseball banquet, The Baltimore Sun reported.

Witnesses said Robinson leaned backwards in his chair and dropped about six feet to the floor.

Efforts to reach a spokesman for the baseball great were unsuccessful but a nurse at the hospital the Sun he was "resting comfortably, and sleeping."

He fractured his shoulder in two places, paramedics said.
