NEWARK, N.J., Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Nathan Gerbe scored in the fourth round of a shootout Tuesday and the Buffalo Sabres broke a 12-game road losing streak with a 2-1 win over New Jersey.
The Devils' Ilya Kovalchuk scored in the first round of the tiebreaker but Jason Pominville extended the contest with a third-round tally to the glove side of Martin Brodeur.

After Ryan Miller turned aside Adam Henrique, Gerbe used a quick forehand snap shot to beat Brodeur and enable Buffalo to end its franchise-worst road skid.
Jordan Leopold scored in regulation and Miller finished with 27 saves.
Patrik Elias managed the only score for New Jersey, which dropped a third straight going into the All-Star Game break.
Brodeur made 13 stops for the Devils.
