NHL: Carolina 2, Winnipeg 1

RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Goalie Cam Ward survived a sustained Winnipeg assault in the third period Monday, backstopping the Carolina Hurricanes to a 2-1 decision over the Jets.

The Hurricanes went into the All-Star Game break with a victory thanks to Ward's late acrobatics. He made 14 of his 29 saves down the stretch, lifting Carolina to 18-24-9 at the season's half-way point.
