NBA: Memphis 98, Detroit 81

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Rudy Gay scored 24 points Friday and helped Memphis turn back a Detroit rally in bringing the Grizzlies a 98-81 victory over the Pistons.

Memphis won its fifth in a row and handed Detroit its 13th loss in 16 games. The Pistons have dropped four straight.

The Grizzlies opened a 21-point lead early in the third period, but saw Detroit climb back within six during the opening minute of the fourth.

Memphis then pulled away while shooting 57 percent for the game. The Grizzlies forced 25 turnovers.

Marc Gasol was one of five Memphis players in double figures with 17 points. Detroit was led by Brandon Knight with 22 points, but he made only 6-of-18 from the field.
