NHL: Toronto 4, Minnesota 1

TORONTO, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Nazem Kadri scored 50 seconds into the contest Thursday and the Toronto Maple Leafs went on to snap a three-game skid with a 4-1 victory over Minnesota.

The Wild lost their fourth straight, getting off only 21 shots and failing to put one past Jonas Gustavsson until Nick Johnson scored with 2:27 left in the game.

Kadri beat Niklas Backstrom with a backhander and Joey Crabb gave Toronto a 2-0 lead after one period by scoring his eighth of the season.

Phil Kessel's power-play goal with 4:12 left in the middle period added to the Toronto lead and Mikhail Grabovski finished the offense for the Maple Leafs by scoring on a deflection 47 seconds into the third.

Backstrom stopped 29-of-33 shots to take the loss.
