NHL: New York Islanders 4, Philadelphia 1

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Evgeni Nabokov took a shutout deep into the third period Thursday and made 40 saves in sending the New York Islanders to a 4-1 win over Philadelphia.

The Islanders, who came into the game with the second-fewest number of victories in the Eastern Conference, have won back-to-back contests.

New York built a 3-0 lead before Matt Read spoiled Nabokov's shutout bid with 9:12 left in the game.

After a scoreless first period, Matt Moulson put the Islanders in front 28 seconds into the middle stanza. Josh Bailey added a shorthanded goal in the second, Mark Streit scored on the power play 7:07 into the third and Michael Grabner tacked on an empty-net goal in the final second.

Sergei Bobrovsky allowed the three New York goals on 26 shots.
