Azarenka, Clijsters win at Australian Open

MELBOURNE, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- No. 3-seeded Victoria Azarenka and defending champion Kim Clijsters each lost just one game Wednesday in posting second-round wins at the Australian Open.

Azarenka blitzed Casey Dellacqua 6-1, 6-0 in 57 minutes. Azarenka took 80 percent of the points on serve -- not facing a break point in the match -- and 61 percent when receiving. She allowed Dellacqua just 10 points in the second set.

Clijsters, seeded 11th, needed just 47 minutes to complete a 6-0, 6-1 rout of Stephanie Foretz Gacon She won two-thirds of the points when receiving serve and claimed all but one of the 14 points off Foretz Gacon's second serve.

Top-seeded Carolina Wozniacki also advanced to the third round in straight sets, taking out Anna Tatishvili 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) while No. 5-seeded Li Na beat Olivia Rogowska 6-2, 6-2 and eighth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska defeated Paula Ormaechea 6-3, 6-1.

Three seeded women's players were eliminated -- all in straight sets -- Wednesday as Romina Oprandi ousted 10th-seeded Francesca Schiavone 6-4, 6-3, Iveta Benesova stopped No. 16 Peng Shuai and Mona Barthel extended her personal winning streak to 10 matches with a 7-5, 6-3 upset of No. 32 Petra Cetkovska.

However, No. 13 Jelena Jankovic claimed a spot in the third round with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Chang Kai-Chen.

Also advancing Wednesday were No. 20-seeded Daniela Hantuchova, 22nd-seeded Julia Goerges, 26th-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues and No. 31 Monica Niculescu.

Other unseeded players moving into the third round are Christina McHale, Galina Voskoboeva and qualifier Nina Bratchikova.
