DETROIT, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- The Detroit Tigers said Tuesday they have signed Max Scherzer, Delmon Young and Don Kelly, avoiding arbitration with all three.
The Detroit Free Press reported the three players each signed one-year deals.
The newspaper said there was a CBS Sports report that Kelly, a utility player, is to receive $900,000. How much Scherzer, a starting pitcher, and Young, an outfielder, will be paid was not reported.
Pitchers Rick Porcello and Phil Coke also skipped arbitration by signing one-year deals Monday.
Tigers General Manager Dave Dombrowski has never had a player go to arbitration in his 10 years in the job.
Scherzer went 15-9 with a 4.43 earned run average in 2001, while Kelly hit .245 with 28 RBI in 113 games.
Young batted .274 with eight home runs and 32 RBI in 40 games with Detroit after being obtained in a trade with Minnesota. He homered five times in nine playoff games, tying a club post-season record.
