WASHINGTON, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Tomas Vokoun stopped 43-of-44 shots and Dmitry Orlov's first NHL goal was the game-winner Sunday in Washington's 2-1 decision over Carolina.
Vokoun turned aside all 18 shots he faced in the third period, racking up his sixth straight home win as the Capitals improved to 17-5-1 at the Verizon Center and grabbed a share of the Southeast Division lead.

Orlov, a rookie defenseman, beat Carolina goalie Cam Ward at the post 72 seconds into the third period, knocking in a bouncing puck to break a 1-1 tie.
Alexander Semin also scored for Washington,
Jussi Jokinen got his first goal in 25 games and Ward finished with 22 saves for the Hurricanes, who fell to 0-9-3 in their last 12 meetings with the Caps.
