Starlin Castro questioned by police

CHICAGO, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro was questioned for several hours about allegations of sexual assault, Chicago police said.

Police questioned Castro Thursday and Friday on allegations he sexually assaulted a woman he met at a nightclub after she fell asleep at his apartment early Sept. 30, the same day he left the country for the Dominican Republic, WBBM-AM, Chicago, reported Friday.

He returned to Chicago Wednesday,

Jay Reisinger and Michael Gillespie, lawyers for Castro, released a statement professing their client's innocence.

"We are aware of certain allegations that have been made against our client, Starlin Castro. We have thoroughly investigated this matter, and we are confident that these allegations are baseless. Given the sensitive nature of this matter, we cannot comment any further," the statement read.
