NHL: Columbus 4, Phoenix 3

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Tomas Kubalik and Ryan Russell both scored for the first time in their NHL careers Friday, helping bring the Columbus Blue Jackets a 4-3 victory over Phoenix.

The Blue Jackets raised the smallest win total in the NHL to 12, producing three unanswered goals after surrendering a score just 1:49 into the contest. Phoenix has lost three in a row.

Kubalik then tied it by producing a goal in his seventh NHL game. He was recently called up to help out the injury-riddled Columbus forward corps.

Rick Nash put the Blue Jackets in front with his 15th of the season and Russell added to the lead early in the second period. Russell made his NHL debut last weekend and was playing in his fourth game.

Phoenix twice closed within a goal, the last time coming when Radim Vrbata produced his 22nd of the season with 8:48 to play.
