NBA: Memphis 94, New York 83

MEMPHIS, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- A 26-point effort by Rudy Gay Thursday sent Memphis to a big lead through three periods and the Grizzlies held on to defeat New York 94-83.

The Knicks had a four-game winning streak halted -- and also saw star Carmelo Anthony limp off the court in the third period with a sprained right ankle. Team officials said Anthony would undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.

New York faltered with the loss of Anthony and trailed 75-52 heading into the fourth quarter.

Gay hit 11-of-16 shots from the field and O.J. Mayo added 18 points for the Grizzlies, who are playing without Zach Randolph while he recovers from a knee injury. Memphis had lost three straight.

Despite playing only 20 minutes, Anthony still led the Knicks in scoring with 14 points. Amare Stoudemire, who suffered from early foul trouble, produced only six points while making 1-of-7 shots.
