Woods says will play Pebble Beach

JUPITER ISLAND, Fla., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- U.S. golfer Tiger Woods said Monday he'll make his first appearance of the 2012 season at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Woods made the announcement on his Web site, revealing he'll appear at the Feb. 9-12 event for the first time since 2002, marking his PGA Tour debut for the year.

"I'm excited to start my PGA Tour season at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am," Woods said. "AT&T is a great partner to my foundation, and I'm looking forward to playing in this event.

"I haven't been to this tournament lately, but I have a lot of good memories at Pebble. It will be fun going back."

Woods recorded an impressive comeback win in the 2000 Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, erasing a 7-stoke deficit over the final seven holes to grab the victory.

He returned to the course four months later for the U.S. Open and recorded the most dominating victory of his career with a record-breaking 15-shot margin.

Woods, however, stumbled in the 2001 and 2002 Pebble Beach pro-ams and hasn't participated in the event since.
