INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- The Indianapolis Colts have decided to take coveted Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck with the first selection in the NFL draft, sources told ESPN.com.

The Colts plummeted to the worst record in the league this season when Peyton Manning was sidelined by a neck injury.

Sources told ESPN.com the uncertainty over Manning's health and the rare opportunity to grab a blue-chip passer convinced team owner Jim Irsay to grab Luck.
