NHL: Los Angeles 1, Phoenix 0 (OT)

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Drew Doughty scored 38 seconds into overtime Thursday to give the Los Angeles Kings a 1-0 win over Phoenix.

After 65 minutes of scoreless hockey, Doughty produced his third goal of the season to bring the Kings their sixth victory in nine games. All three losses in that stretch have come in overtime.

The goaltending duel involved Jonathan Quick of the Kings and Mike Smith of the Coyotes.

Quick recorded his sixth shutout of the season, equaling his career best for a single season set during the 2010-11 campaign. He has 20 shutouts over five NHL seasons.

Smith suffered the hard-luck loss while making 27 saves.
