Troicki, Bogomolov post Qatar victories

DOHA, Qatar, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Seeded players Viktor Troicki and Alex Bogomolov Jr. advanced Monday on the first day of the season-opening Qatar Open.

Fifth-seeded Troicki of Croatia defeated Czech Lukas Rosol 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) and No. 6 Bogomolov rebounded to overcome Italy's Filippo Volandri 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, advancing to the second round.

Bogomolov, who lives in Florida, is playing under the flag of his native Russia this year.

Also taking an opening day win was eighth-seeded Italian Andreas Seppi, who humbled Poland's Lukasz Kubot 6-2, 6-3.

Italian Flavio Cipolla and Spaniard Albert Ramos also logged victories.
