NHL: Winnipeg 1, Los Angeles 0 (OT)

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Evander Kane scored on a slap shot 1:01 into overtime Thursday, ending a goaltending duel and giving the Winnipeg Jets a 1-0 win over Los Angeles.

The Kings' Jonathan Bernier and the Jets' Chris Mason battled to a scoreless draw for 60 minutes before Kane delivered his 18th goal of the season.

Mason made 31 saves for his first shutout of the season, the 22nd of his 10-year career. Winnipeg won for the third time in four games.

Bernier stopped 26 shots in the hard-luck loss. The Kings came into the game having won four out of five.

After winning just once in their opening six games this season, the Jets have come back to trail Florida by four points for the lead in the Southeast Division.
