Wilson gets contract extension from Leafs

TORONTO, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Toronto Maple Leafs Coach Ron Wilson revealed Sunday he has received a contract extension from the team.

Wilson, who has guided the Leafs into second place in the Northeast Division with an 18-13-4 record, wrote on his Twitter account that Santa had "[stuffed] a certain piece of paper in my stocking."


He added, "He came! He came! Remember saying that as a little kid? Well he did: I got a new Red Ryder BB gun and a contract extension!"

Wilson was in the last year of a four-year contract with Toronto, which hasn't made the playoffs since the 2003-04 season. He has compiled a 119-120-42 record during his tenure with Toronto.

Wilson, who has also coached the San Jose Sharks, Washington Capitals and Anaheim Ducks, sports a 637-566-169 career record.
