NHL: Minnesota 2, San Jose 1

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Matt Hackett made a splash in his NHL debut Tuesday by making 34 saves to lead the Minnesota Wild to a 2-1 win over San Jose.

Hackett stepped into the crease when Josh Harding was injured in a first-period collision with teammate Nick Schultz less than 2 minutes into the game with the Wild already trailing 1-0 and blanked the Sharks the rest of the way. Hackett is a nephew of former NHL goalie Jeff Hackett.

Pierre-Marc Bouchard's score late in the first period proved to be the winner. Mikko Koivu opened the scoring and then assisted on Bouchard's power-play goal at 19:48.

Antti Niemi had 19 saves for the Sharks, who have lost four of their last five. San Jose's Joe Pavelski opened the scoring on an assist by Dan Boyle 1:00 into the game.
