STANFORD, Calif., Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Stanford University assistant Coach Chester McGlockton, a former defensive lineman for the Oakland Raiders, died Wednesday at age 42, the school announced.

A statement issued by Stanford said McGlockton died overnight but didn't release any other details.

McGlockton, a four-time Pro Bowl pick, was the Raiders' first-round pick out of Clemson in the 1992 NFL Draft and starred for them through the 1997 season, after which he was dealt to the Kansas City Chiefs.

McGlockton also played for the Denver Broncos and New York Jets over a 12-year career, compiling 51 sacks in 179 career games.

He served as a defensive assistant on Stanford's football staff the past two seasons.

Jim Harbaugh, San Francisco 49ers head coach and former Stanford mentor, told ESPN he was shocked and saddened to hear of McGlockton's death.

"Chester's been a very close and dear friend over the last four years," Harbaugh said. "It was a shock. Just sad, sad today with the news of his passing. Chester was a great guy, good man, doing the right things."
