PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Chris Pronger, the captain of the Philadelphia Flyers, will miss four weeks of action after undergoing knee surgery, General Manager Paul Holmgren said Monday.

Holmgren said the procedure, scheduled for Tuesday, is intended to correct a nagging injury in which loose particles will be cleaned out of the defenseman's left knee.

The move comes after Pronger missed four games due to a viral infection.

"The reason he missed games was because of the virus. This (knee injury) came up just recently, yesterday, and we decided the best way to attack this is with surgery now," Holmgren said.

The veteran blueliner has one goal and 11 assists in 13 games this season, his third with the Flyers.
