NHL: Calgary 5, Minnesota 2

ST. PAUL, Minn., Nov. 27 (UPI) -- T.J. Brodie's first NHL goal capped a wild first period and proved to be the game-winner Sunday in the Calgary Flames' 5-2 victory over Minnesota.

The two teams had combined to score four goals in the game's first 8 minutes when Brodie, a rookie defenseman, broke a 2-2 tie with a shot that trickled through the legs of Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom 8:45 into the contest.

That tally chased the Minnesota goalie, and Alex Tanguay and Jarome Iginla iced the game with third-period goals against replacement Josh Harding.

Mark Giordano and Lee Stempniak also scored for Calgary, which salvaged one win on a four-game road trip.

Miikka Kirpusoff recovered from his poor start, earning the victory with 19 saves.

Cal Clutterbuck and Nick Johnson found the net for first-place Minnesota, which dropped its second straight to a Northwest Division foe.

Backstrom allowed three goals on eight shots before exiting. Harding ended with 25 saves.
