Federer ends season with ATP Finals win

LONDON, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Roger Federer collected a record sixth ATP World Tour Finals championship Sunday, besting Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in three sets.

Federer, playing in his 100th career final, gutted out a 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 decision over the Frenchman in the season-ending event at London's O2 Arena.

The Swiss superstar has also won Wimbledon six times.

Federer reeled off his 39th match win in the Tour Finals, tying him with Ivan Lendl for the most all time.

Federer improved to 8-3 against Tsonga all time, including 6-2 this year. He downed him last week in the London event's round-robin play and in the Paris Masters final a week before.

It also continued Federer's recent hot streak. He went unbeaten in three round-robin matches to win Group B play and now has taken 17 straight dating back to a loss to Novak Djokovic in the U.S. Open semifinals.

Tsonga defeated Federer in the Wimbledon quarterfinals this year.
