NHL: New Jersey 1, New York Islanders 0

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Johan Hedberg stopped a penalty shot among his 23 saves Friday, boosting the New Jersey Devils to a 1-0 decision over the New York Islanders.

Hedberg put together his second shutout of the season and the 19th of his career.

The Devils had a 1-0 lead with 7:10 remaining in the third period when Michael Grabner was pulled down on a breakaway chance. Grabner was awarded a penalty shot, but Hedberg made a glove save on a backhand shot to preserve the shutout.

The lone goal, with 5:47 remaining in the second period, was scored by Petr Sykora on the power play.

New Jersey handed the Islanders their fourth straight setback.

The teams will meet again Saturday in Newark. New Jersey has defeated the Islanders in each of their last five contests.
